The Pitcairn Islands Study Group (PISG) was formed in North America and the UK organisation was constituted from an informal meeting of PISG members resident in the UK during 1987-88. The name of the UK PISG was changed to the Pitcairn and Norfolk Islands Society in October 2012 (PNI Soc).

The truth about Pitcairn's water damaged Radio Covers
Here is a copy of a letter from 1958 which tells the true story of how the 1938 Pitcairn "Radio Covers" came to be water damaged. Forget the more romantic version which says they fell in the sea near Pitcairn, the truth is rather boring!
To see the letter larger, just click on it, then use your back button to return here.

Captain Cook on the Bounty!
Anyone know if this scene was based on fact? Right in the middle there's a picture of Captain Cook. This is a production continuity still from the 1962 version of Mutiny on the Bounty, I think it is a studio set rather than actually on board the replica Bounty. The clapper board has the date September 13th 1961.
Incorrect comment on Radio Cover
This 1938 "Radio Cover" has a pencil written note on the front explaining that it "has been water coated due to all mail for this island being put in a container and then thrown in the ocean" . . . that's not how I understand the Pitcairn mail system works! The true story is actually rather boring as I understand it. The Radio Covers were stored in the basement of a stamp shop that was flooded.
